Peter Perkins

Peter Perkins, 84, of Austin Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of February 9, 2019. After winning the battle with Cancer – the tumor was gone! – his heart succumbed to the strain of the fight.

Pete proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 24 years. After being honorably discharged, he took up his second career, working at TCI Paint Company for around 11 years before they closed. Then he began his third career at AutoZone, where he worked 18 years before finally retiring the last time. For Pete, retirement did not mean sitting still. He was always working around the house and in the yard. He loved to trim the lawn and trees and to fix up stuff around the house, whether it needed to be fixed or not! Idleness simply was not in his nature.

While stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage Alaska, Pete met and married his wife Beth Perkins, and had two children: James and Paula. Obeying military orders, he moved his family to Austin Texas in 1977. It was at this time in his life that he gave his heart to Jesus and began to regularly attend church. From that time until the day he died, he faithfully served the Lord in whatever capacity presented itself. He never sought to glorify himself but always strove to quietly live a life of love and service to his family, his church and his Heavenly Father.

Pete is preceded in death by his dear son, James D. Perkins. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Beth Perkins; his beloved daughter, Paula Martinez and her husband, Ray Martinez; his granddaughter Amber Martinez; and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Perkins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 11:00 am, and a service to celebrate Pete’s life at 11:30 am, in the sanctuary of South Austin Baptist Church, 8210 South First Street, Austin Texas. Immediately after the service, guests are invited to attend a brief, graveside committal service at Onion Creek Memorial Park, 11610 Chapel Ln, Austin, Texas.
