August Thomas

December 30, 1940 — March 5, 2021

Austin Texas

August (Bubba) was born on December 23, 1940, in McDade, Texas in Bastrop County to August Sylvester and Ida Mae (Reese) Thomas.  His family moved to Austin in 1941, where they united with the Main East Austin Baptist Church (Mount Sinai).  August received Christ as his Savior at a young age, and he was a member of the Mount for over 65 years.

He attended public schools in Austin, L. L. Campbell, Kealing Junior High, and he was a 1959 graduate of L. C. Anderson High School.  He served as an officer of the L. C. Anderson High School Alumni.  Additionally, August obtained his Associates degree from Austin Community College.

August was united in Holy Matrimony to Odessa Jarmon.  They celebrated over 30 years of marriage before her passing on March 24, 2007.

August (Bubba, & Big 70) focused his life on bringing laughter to all he interacted with, he loved sharing Truths & Untruths with everyone he met.  He was never at a loss for words, and he truly loved his family and making everyone laugh, and of course he was the life of any event, telling jokes and stories.

Bubba loved to sing in the Male Chorus at the Mount and enjoyed attending worship at the early morning service.  In his later years, he also enjoyed being a part of a phone line bible study.  Bubba worked for the music store JR Reed and then Austin Child Guidance Center as the General Program Intake Specialist, and he retired after over 20 years.

Bubba loved taking pictures, and it became a favorite hobby.  He was known around Austin and surrounding areas for being a photographer with Bubba’s Photography and with his dear friend, Melvin Scott, with Black and Gold Photography, and he also was a Yellow Jacket Citizen Band Operator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Odessa; his beloved sister, Faye Pearl Thomas Wilson; his beloved brother-in-love and friend, James Monro Wilson;  his three nephews, Edward and Darrell Wayne Wilson and Kenneth Ealey; and his grandson, Brian Thompson.

Bubba leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Calvin Ray (Kerri) Thompson and Sheila (Terrell) Edwards; his granddaughters, LeTisha Turner and LaShaundra Thompson; five great grandchildren, “Faye’s Kids” which he raised as his own; three nephews, Charles Ray (Gloria) Ealey, Robert Wilson and Ira (Angie) Wilson; one niece, Kedrin Wilson; one niece-in-love, Jackie Ealey; grand nephews, Gregory aka/Pooh Ealey, Jason Ealey, Justin Wilson, Joseph Ford, and Nicholas Wilson; grand nieces, Keshia Harris, Waynell Wilson, and Kennedy Wilson; godchildren, Lena Deary and Joshua Hall; three sisters-in-love, Ola M. Sterling (Greg), Lucy M. Darder, and Ruthie M. Washington; two brothers-in-love, Howard Jarmon Jr. (Josephine), and Melvin Collin; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, relatives and faithful friends.
