Waymon Mclamb

Waymon McLamb (aka Uncle Mack) was born on March 23, 1946 in Sampson County, North Carolina. Mack died July 26, 2020 at Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas. He was 74 years old.

He attended Rosehill Elementary school in Salemburg, North Carolina and graduated from Charles E. Perry High School in Roseboro, North Carolina in June of 1964. Mack joined Mingle Hill Disciples Church at an early age and sung with the male chorus and the young adult choir. Mack developed a joy and a gift for music at the age of five. During high school he began singing with a group called the In-Nights. They traveled throughout North Carolina singing gospel. Mack had a love for quartet music. He enlisted in the US Army in June of 1964 where he served for 18 years. He was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas where he met his wife and they united in holy matrimony in December 19, 1975. Mack loved to record music at First Baptist Church in Taylor, Texas under the leadership of the late Tommie L. Rivers and then later on under the late Reverend Tommie Garner Sr.

He also served under Reverend Harold Taylor where he was ordained at Zion Chapel in Taylor, Texas. As a Deacon and at St. John College Height Baptist Church under the late Pastor Wilmon Matthew Reed as a Deacon and Pastor Micheal Harvey of Austin, Texas. Mack sung with the Gospel Mourners of Taylor, Texas over 5 years and played guitar as well. He also traveled all over the country with the Gospel Starts for 25 years and managed the group as well.

Mack was an active member of the Austin Quartet Association. His hobbies were golfing, bowling, and riding his motorcycle. He worked at the Postal Service for over 30 years where he retired in 2009. He also worked as a mechanic, and loved working with audio equipment. He was an all around guy and loved what he did. Mack graduated from Austin Community College in 2003 where he majored in Mechanics. He also worked for Girling and Uber, with his last job being at Med Lift. He was very loved there. Mack never met a stranger, everyone that knew him called him Uncle Mack. He was a member of the New Light Lodge No.242 in 1978, and was life long Washington Red Skin fan.

He was preceded in death by his father Allen Watson McLamb, his mother Louise Bannerman McLamb, and three borthers; Andrew Mark McLamb, Steven Allen McLamb, and Timothy Allen McLamb who passed at birth. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bobbie McLamb of Round Rock, Texas, sons; Harold Carter of Austin, Texas and Michael (Johanna) Carter of Denver, Colorado, brother Reverend Doctor Alvin (Vanessa) Watson McLamb of Rock Hill, South Carolina, sisters; Ida Pearl McLamb of Adams, Tenessee, Alvinia (Elder Harry) Parker of Salenburg, North Carolina, and Dail McLamb of Fayetteville, North Carolina, aunts; Mamie Lassiter of Charlotte, North Carolina and Lorie Dixio Jones of Salemburg, North Carolina. Mack is also survived by 7 grand children, 1 great-grand daughter, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family and friends.
